9th Annual Grant Valkaria Day – Saturday, April 11th
Down in our neck of the woods at the Grant Valkaria Community Park there will be loads of activities and fun for all ages! A 5k Country Walk/Run starts off the morning with a youth fishing derby, music and car show to follow! Food, music, bounce houses and games will keep everyone going all day! Earth Day’s 45th Anniversary – Wednesday, April 22nd
Earth day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Senator in 1970 after witnessing the effects of the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Since then Earth Day is celebrated in over 192 countries, the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air Act were created in part to Earth Day and more than ONE BILLION people participate in Earth Day. How can you help?? This years theme is It’s our turn to lead ™ and is focused on delivering millions of voices to push government leaders to take action on climate change, the environment and the connection between poverty and climate change. National Picnic Day & National Cherry Cheesecake Day – April 23
We aren’t quite sure how these national days made it together but we won’t question a good thing! Grab a blanket, a cherry cheesecake and your friends and family and celebrate (that is if you are up for sharing!) outside with some beautiful spring weather! We used this no-bake recipe – The Best Unbaked Cherry Cheesecake from AllRecipes.com for our picnic at UTCFs and it was amazing and beyond easy!
Melbourne Art Festival – April 25th & 26th
This nationally recognized event is held each year on the fourth full weekend in April in historic downtown Melbourne. It is a nationally recognized event that showcases the work of 250 artists. It is put on by an all-volunteer committee and this year the 31st annual art festival will feature a juried art show, live music, 5k run, Kidsworld, student art venue and a food court. Kentucky Derby – May 2nd
Ok ok we know that it is in May and this is the April Happenings but we just wanted to make sure you didn’t miss the Kentucky Derby! This will give you plenty of time to prep your derby hat and perfect your mint julep! Coverage starts on NBC at 4 and the race goes off at 6:24pm.
