Ashley + Joseph

A Simple & Elegant Gathering of Love

After spending 9 years together, Ashley and Joseph wanted nothing more than to celebrate their timeless love with all of those who had watched them grow. They were drawn to the scenic grounds of Up the Creek Farms, scattered oak trees covered in moss, and old Florida feels that made for simple and natural beauty at its finest.

Tell us the story and inspiration behind your wedding.

We both have a simplistic style, so the initial wedding vision included whites with greenery. We wanted neutral colors with elegant details. The table settings had ivory tablecloths and linens with small bouquets of white hydrangeas accented with gold votive candles. Simple elegant beauty was the goal! For the ceremony, we had a large cross at the altar decorated with floral. The cocktail tables had white tablecloths with eucalyptus ties.

What were the personal details of the wedding that are a great reflection of you as a couple?

We tried to sequence events to maximize the amount of time we could spend with our guests. The first look allowed us to take 90% of our photos before the guests arrived. After the ceremony and the family portraits, we were able to join our guests in the cocktail hour for 20 minutes which was important to us. This made the wedding more personal for us, since we were able to spend more time with family and friends. One unique idea we had was to display one photo for each year we had been together (9 years in total- starting in high school) on the guest book table . Our guests loved seeing the transformations over the years!

Memories, moments, and stories about the day that you would like to share

The suspense building up to the “first look” was incredible. Particularly when the Lisa (photographer) was queuing Ashley. She would ask her to step forward, and then it would seem like an eternity before she would step again. When she was standing directly behind me I was more nervous at that moment then waiting at the altar for her to walk down. When we were finally allowed to lock eyes the excitement turned to emotion, she was absolutely stunning and it was incredible.

Before the reception started DJ Shane ran through some “Ice Breakers” where everyone was tossing around a napkin like hot potato. Whoever was holding it when the music stopped had to do some funny dance – we won’t give them away, but both us and the guests still laugh about this.

Both our families are Italian and one of our guests requested a traditional Italian wedding song, where our guests formed a circle around us as we danced in the middle, it was surprising and a blast!

The last song we danced with our guests was “Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks and all of us locked arms swaying as we sang to close out the night. This was followed by our last dance with just us in the venue to “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait. This was the first time that the two of us were together alone as husband and wife and a moment I will never forget.
