On the breezy, sunny Sunday, October 22, 2017, we had the honor to be the venue for the Brevard Neighborhood Development Coalition‘s 7th Annual Fall Fundraiser. This year’s theme was “Carnival at the Creek” – as in our very own Goat Creek! We could not have been more excited to help participate in this event. As soon as the idea got brought to Up the Creek Farm’s owner Jess’ attention, the creative sparks started flying.
The event was to a benefit and spread awareness about the initiative’s created and maintained by BNDC since 2001. BNDC’s motto is “Joining Hands for a Better Future” with missions reaching teens, low income working families, the elderly, and even more residents of the community. The organization is represented in two areas of the Brevard County: the Booker T. Washington community in central Melbourne & the North East area of Palm Bay. Initiatives involve…
  • The DOCK: the Dorcas Outreach Center for Kids is a safe haven for children and teens of the Booker T. Washington neighborhood. Youth receive academic and spiritual mentoring and enjoy enrichment programs.
  • Greater Heights: an 18 unit apartment complex for low income working families and the elderly, also in Melbourne’s Booker T. Washington community.
  • Evans Center: a multi-use project planned in NE Palm Bay/SE Melbourne, serving residents with a fresh food market, Brevard Health Alliance clinic, and youth job training.
Want to help this organization grow? There are three ways to help!
  1. Share a link to their website in order to spread awareness: http://bndcserve.org/
  2. Volunteer with the organization – from special events, to landscaping, to administrative tasks, to tutoring & more – YOU can help! To fill out a volunteer form, click http://bndcserve.org/
  3. Donate directly, in partnership with Amazon Smile, or Legacy Giving!
BNDC also joined together with Club EsteemFamily Promise of Brevard, and Love INC to create the program “Gifts from the Heart” Christmas Shop! This program allows families – including ones of very modest means – to provide for themselves rather than accept a handout. Now let’s now jump in to the MAIN EVENT! Once the amazing volunteers & board members from BNDC set up, we were ready to have fun! The event included delicious treats by Green Turtle Catering, cool beverages, delightful music by Blue Cypress Bluegrass band, carnival games, prizes, and deeeelicious sweets!
Not only were volunteer and staff members present to make the event fun, we were in the presence of the “Carnival Ring Leaders” – a group of DOCK member teens that truly contributed to the success of the event. Such beautiful & polite young adults!
The details around the event were bright, cheery, and reminded all of us of childhood days. Fun was in every detail. There were 6 booths set up of games & photo opportunities, a popcorn stand, a delicious pastry table, information & ticket counters, two bars, then numerous tables to relax with delicious Green Turtle carnival inspired food.
Enough chit chat here, check out the photos below! 😉
The first grouping of photos here is taken by Up the Creek Farms staff.
(Pssst… we don’t blame you if you’d like to now include some fun carnival games during your upcoming wedding! It was soooo much fun!)

We spy Crystal & Crates favorite pieces! 😀 Our vintage finds enjoyed the change in pace from weddings to carnival for a day – hee hee! We just can never get enough of our Whiskey Barrel Chairs.
BNDC information was throughout the event including a floor plan for the innovative hang out – the DOCK!

As you can tell this was quite the upscale carnival… we even had Valet service! Super sweet guys here to make the day carefree!
And now for the best part – when all the guests arrived! The fun was ready to begin!
Once the Carnival started, we had the pleasure to meet Sarah Tricano of Tricano Photography. Her engaging & enjoyable photos perfectly captured the evening – from the attendees, to the volunteers, to the games & decor. We can’t thank Sarah enough for providing us photograph memories of the event. For more on Tricano Photography, click the link below. A photography teacher by weekday, then life & family photographer by weekend – Sarah’s talent shows in every picture in her website’s Portfolio.
