Lauren + Patrick

A celebration of love, family and togetherness

Lauren and Patrick celebrated their love not once but twice with us here at Up the Creek Farms. The first was a small, intimate gathering to bring together their lives and their families (click here to see this special day). The second was a celebration of their first year of marriage with all of the people who lift them up and support them. “We wanted to celebrate not only our marriage but those who surround us and support us through so much. We wanted to make sure everyone felt appreciated and loved.”

Tell us about your ceremony…

We had our wedding ceremony at UTCF on May 12th, 2017. On May 12th, 2018 we renewed our vows in the exact same place at almost the exact same time. It was our first wedding anniversary! We spent 10 out of 12 months of our first year of marriage apart. We wrote our own vows this time and had no idea what the other was going to say. Our ceremonies felt like the front and back cover of a book; the beginning and ending of what was a difficult first year.

At cocktail hour did you have any unique experiences for your guests?

We hung a frame from a tree but I think mostly the wedding party used it. We also had a Jenga game instead of a guestbook. The pieces are covered in writing! We boxed it up that night and plan to read them all as we play this year on our anniversary. There were lawn games of course but I think the mini chicken pot pies and shrimp and grits shooters had everyones attention the most!

Tell us about the special moments from the reception.

We finally got to celebrate, we got to have our first dance! The most special moment however hands down was Pat dancing with his Grandmother. We spent hours searching for her and pat’s grandfathers song (who passed away years ago) in a format the DJ could play. Pat asked her to dance with him to the song. Nobody had any idea that was going to happen.

What advice would you give to future Up the Creek Couples?

Do not sweat the small stuff. Do not stress if the plan doesn’t exactly go as planned. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the planning and deciding and making sure it is everything you hope your wedding will be but don’t loose sight of what really matters. In the end what happens is what happens. Our wedding did not go as originally planned. Our wedding was not what I thought it would be when we first started all of this almost 2 years before it took place. You know what? It was better. It was exactly how it was supposed to be and it was us. Don’t forget that, you and me are becoming we. What a beautiful thing in and of itself, that is what matters, celebrate that!
